Gert- so sad to hear of your passing. You were a very special person and the finest cook I ever met.

We loved Oren and what fun I had DJing there for a night of fine food crazy visuals and much laughter

I will remember your gentle personality great ability and the fact that you loved Wales and Cymraeg more than many Welsh people! We always laughed that we shared the same birthday on June 5th and I will raise a glass in your honour on Wednesday...Cysga'n dawel ffrind x

So shocked to see this. Gert was a genuine lovely man. We shared herbs and spices for Oren - he liked the lovage from my Caernarfon garden - such a joy to see him every time, talking about books, curiosities and lovely food. Love to his family from the Llyn Peninsula.

We're very shocked and sorry to hear the news of Gert's untimely death. We can't believe it. I wrote last month to tell him we were thinking of him because the wild garlic was out in the woods across the field here, and I picked enough to make two (of Carrie's big sheep yoghurt) jars of baerlauch pesto. Gert was so warm-hearted and open and kind. We already missed him not being in Wales any more. It's hard to know he's not in the world any more. We will always have memories of his delicious, adventurous cooking and his beautiful strong collage pictures and the night he fed us all so generously at Caernarfon Yacht Club. We are thinking of Gert's family and let them know we loved him. 

This is such sad news. I've enjoyed Gert's company and food since he was creating his original soups and cakes on Llanberis High St, through to Oren, Church St and then pop-ups. He was always so warm and generous, he was greatly missed when he left north Wales. 

So sorry to hear this. Gert was a kind, genuine and really lovely person, we had many chats on the street here in Llanberis, Caban and his regular popups. He will be missed by many of us here in Llanberis. Cofion a cariad i chi i gyd a chydymdeimladau.

Roedd Oren yn bwysig iawn yn natblygiad bwyta allan a dathlu bwyd yng Nghaernarfon - yn wir, roedd yn arloesol! Yn ddyn agored a hoffus, roedd pob ymweliad wastad yn ddifyr yng nghwmni Gert.

I just wanted to add how devastated I feel. And my heartfelt sympathy and all my warmest thoughts to support you and your family in your loss of Gert- such a genuine lovely person. 

Life is not measured by the breaths you take but by the moments that take your breath away.
We will sorely miss Gert- he was such a dear friend through the whole time he was in North Wales and so talented. His spirit was indomitable and he was such an adventurer! I remember the Christmas he spent with us and the Dutch apple cake...and laughing in the kitchen as we manoeuvred an enormous roast shoulder of lamb for my 60th birthday 

So very sorry and so sad to hear that Gert is no longer with us. Oren was truly my favourite restaurant -always guaranteed a quirky evening, with a warm and kind welcome from Gert. I have such good memories of tasty, different (sometimes bizzarre!) dishes. And a busy, sweaty Gert rushing up and down stairs, serving platter after platter, handing out silver pudding forks from a tin box and speaking welsh. When I received the e mail tonight with Gert?s name In the subject I thought it was about his return to Wales for a pop up. So sad that this will never happen again. We will miss him very much, he was a part of Caernarfon. Cariad mawr to you all- Gert?s family

We are all so so sorry to hear about Gert. He had become a very good friend over the years. We?ve had lots of fun at Oren, Abel House and pop up bistro in Llanrug (where we live). He will be very sadly missed. Condolences to all your family. Love from the people in North Wales.
